1. Types of care to be delivered in the patient’s environment
2. Equipment management including safe and appropriate use of equipment as applicable to the care provided:
a. Individuals responsible for maintaining equipment will demonstrate knowledge and competence in appropriate maintenance procedures for the equipment
b. When required by the manufacturer, individuals responsible for preventive maintenance successfully complete the manufacturers training program or another training program with equivalent content
3. Environmental safety issue including bathroom, fire, environmental and electrical safety.
4. Storage, handling and access to supplies, medical gases and drugs appropriate to the care or service provided
5. Medical waste management program
a. Identification, handling and disposal of hazardous or infectious materials and wastes in a safe and sanitary manner
b. Annual update required
6. Infection control including; personal hygiene, precautions to be taken, aseptic procedures, communicable infections and appropriate cleaning, disinfecting of equipment and supplies
7. Confidentially of patient information
8. Appropriate policies and procedures
9. Appropriate actions in unsafe situations
10. Any specific laboratory tests to be performed by the staff
11. Screening for abuse and neglect appropriate to the staff member’s role and responsibility
12. Emergency preparedness
13. Any other patient care responsibilities
14. Information regarding the care to be provided by other staff members to better coordinate care
15. Bloodborne pathogen and airborne pathogen regulations
a. Hazards and methods of transmission
b. Signs and symptoms
c. Medical surveillance and therapy
d. Site specific protocols including the purpose and proper use of environmental controls, work practices and personal protective equipment
16. Hazard communication plan and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
17. Principles and methods of performance improvement and as needed principles of information management
